One of Melbourne’s iconic pubs, The Provincial Hotel on Brunswick Street launched its rooftop bar in September 2017 and Visual Builders was on hand to make this project a successful one for the Dixon Hospitality Group. This was a complicated build involving a large structural steel component as there were no footings to the roof. A new steel deck base had to be constructed. Due to the nature of traffic on Brunswick St and Johnson St all materials had to be craned in at night and a proportion of works also had to be done during the night.

Given the heritage of this building, the design needed to flow on from the existing weathered look. Many elements of the design were fashioned from recycled materials such as the bar face which is recycled roof tiles. The checker board ceiling was hand painted and constructed from ply wood. The roof top which opens out to a roof level view of Fitzroy was designed to further complement the eclectic vintage style of the rest of the venue. The rooftop area incorporates a patio feel with retro furniture, sleek wooden tables, beautiful timber decking, vibrant landscaping and an amazing honed marble bar top. Booth seating with black framed glass balustrade catches the eye from street level making the rooftop a prominent feature.
