The Market Hotel formerly The Star Hotel is located in the affluent eatery area of South Melbourne and was recently bought out by The Reeb group. In the span of three months it was transformed into a modernised green room, encompassing the outdoor environment within the indoor atmosphere. The scope of the project was to create an atmosphere which resembles Melbourne’s outdoor night life, likewise; with the boys construction background, the importance of recycled and reclaimed materials were to be the storey telling characteristics of this pub.
The build features large voids revealing floating booths on a mezzanine level, two storey palm trees, synthetic lawn, a vertical garden, reclaimed timber decking and dining tables, the new CUB duo tanks and copper lines all in the main dining area and bar. Upstairs is the nightclub scene with parquetry dance floor, checkerboard lawn, electroplated copper bar with duo tanks, and replicated red telephone booth for an elevator. There is also an open rooftop beer garden. From what was a dark closed off social venue, this initial transformation gave the hotel a new lease of life. Since then the hotel has been relaunched as The Market Hotel with some small but exciting face lifts on the outside as well as the inside of the building.
