Pillar of Salt is a Melbourne café run by local restaurateurs Kael and Matt Sahely. This primely located cafe pinpoints the atmosphere and style of the area, showcasing its striking sense of individuality with an a-typical black, white and grey Melbourne stamp. The small space involved major alterations and much needed restoration work. Techne Architects and Visual Builders transformed the decaying shell into a warm, intriguing and activated space. The design reveres the original unrefined elements of the building and adds a distinctive layering of materiality and bespoke furniture, joinery and lighting.
