The Nelson St Kilda is a cosy little bar located in the prime seaside hub of St Kilda. The brief was to create a relaxed atmosphere to reflect Melbourne’s rustic coastal night-hype. It’s main feature is the salvaged old timber pier from Docklands, which was reused for the entire timber fitout for the bar cladding, the decorative beam, the bar shelving and the fixed table and bench tops.
The renovation reflects the local beach showcasing the jetty and underwater life with an impressive octopus mural across the wall and large support struts appearing like the underbelly of the jetty. The project had some challenges – the tight spaces and intricate detailing.
Overall the build achieved the desired result making this space naturally cosy, warm and welcoming at the same time.
