Winner 2016 HIA CSR Victorian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards
Winner Small Commercial Project – The Market Hotel South Melbourne – Design & Construction by Visual Builders
The judges said ” This project is a clever, innovative and totally renovated building that incorporates a high level of construction difficulty and a sustainable use of existing materials, such as flooring, furniture and feature walls”. See the whole article from Top Homes Magazine here.
This award has special significance for the Visual Builders team as specialty pub and hotel builders. Directors Tony Lewis and Brett Walsh’s ability to provide a wealth of knowledge and experience to many clients and architects alike has been at the forefront of much of our construction over the years. So, it is such a honour to receive an award where the design and construction has been achieved by Visual Builders alone. The renovation of The Market Hotel (formerly the Star Bar) wouldn’t have been achieved without the construction support of our amazing Visual Builders team and our main subcontractors – Draftwise Design & Drafting, JNAT Building Surveyors, Kane & Co Electrical, Chroma Contractors, Mick Collins Plumbing, Airconditioning & Electrical Services, Mr Carpets Collingwood & Vogue Upholstery.
Thank you to everyone involved and well done! Read More.

Another Win for Prahran Hotel for Best Bar Design
Designed by Techne Architects and constructed by Melbourne Pub Builders Visual Builders.
Winner Small Commercial Project under $4 Million – The Prahran Hotel, High St
What an achievement! The Prahran Hotel is a substantial two storey corner pub with a striking streamlined art deco facade. The rear of the venue had a poor quality single storey extension and the clients brief for the project called to demolish and replace it with a dramatic double height space with a central courtyard. The design features a sculptural facade constructed out of concrete pipes stacked one on the other; like kegs or wine barrels. They link together in a way that enables the patrons to sit within them to view the streetscape out one end of the pipe and the interior and courtyard from the other. Read more.
Finalist 2013 HIA-CSR Victorian Housing Awards
Finalist Renovation/Addition Project $301,00-$500,000 -Yarraville House.
This modest 3 bedroom Victorian weatherboard home in Yarraville has been transformed internally and extended to create a series of contemporary living spaces for the family. While the extension would be described as open living, it has clearly defined kitchen, dining and living spaces that are defined by screens and ceiling heights rather than walls. Read More.

We were delighted to be part of the Awards this year and were quite surprised that this modest but exceptionally well designed project was a winner. Congratulations to all and thanks to our client and Techne Architects for allowing us to enter this project.
2012 – 2013 HIA-CSR Victorian Housing Awards Finalist
Small Commercial Project The Bridge Hotel, Richmond
What an honour to have this project become one of the finalists in a very diverse category. Up against two new builds, The Bridge Hotel’s design, construction, immaculate finish and flare held its own against the other entries and we are very proud to be known as the builder of this wonderful public hotel.

Venue Magazine Article ‘Green Machine’
Recently, Venue Magazine have given the Terminus Hotel a write up, dubbing it the “Green Machine”. Visual have even managed to receive a mention based around the strong relationship between the client; Sand Hill Road Group Pty Ltd and the architect; Techne Architects + interior Design. The long standing relationship between the 3 entities have produced over 13 individual projects proving the success of team work at challenging circumstances.
The Terminus Hotel was by far a complex build given the grand garden space with numerous steel columns jutting from the ground up, the wall to ceiling shingled bar and the overall transformation of the old bar with the new.
